According to this IFL Science! article, one million animals are killed on US roads each day. Even though many animals spend their entire lives on one side of a highway, often they have good reasons for needing to cross the road. If the grass starts dying out and the animals needs better food, then they will find a way to cross these dangerous roads.
As the article explains, people are intervening and building animal bridges to help get animals across the road safely. If you watch the video below, then you can see that while progress is happening, there is still much more work to do. For instance, what helps get one animal species to use the bridge might not work on another species.
